Event Recap: Art x Blockchain x ESG x Payment — ABCD Networking Evening (30 June 2026)

On June 30, 2026, the Association of Blockchain Development (ABCD) hosted its highly anticipated networking evening at the World Finance Centre. Under the theme "Art x Blockchain x ESG x Payment," the event brought together Hong Kong's leading innovators, Web3 pioneers, ESG consultants, legal experts, and traditional artists to discuss the future of asset fractionalization, digital rights, modern transaction technology, and green innovation.

Key Presentation Highlights

1. Art Growth Limited — "Create, Authenticate and Monetize"

Presenter: Dr. Daniel Chun (Chairman & Co-Founder, Art Growth Limited)

Dr. Chun presented Art Growth Limited’s award-winning platform, Articulator.ai, which recently won the Gold Medal + Jury Congratulations Award at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva 2026.

  • The Solution: The Art ID Registry utilizes a Dual-Twin strategy, leveraging W3C Decentralised Identifiers (DID:ART) and HKUST’s patented Pi-Code 2D-Watermark Technology to establish trust and clear provenance.

  • Architecture: Deployed on Hyperledger Besu, the platform integrates C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) standards, ensuring that artwork metadata remains immutable, traceable, and secure against unauthorized AI training models.

2. Payment Cards Group (PCG) — "Building the Next Generation of Payments"

Presenter: Beatrice Tai (Regional Director, Payment Cards Group)

Beatrice delivered a compelling pitch on how PCG is transforming payment processing using vertical integration and deep ledger technologies.

  • A3A Architecture: PCG’s proprietary A3A architecture eliminates middle layers (Gateways, Acquirers, Processors) to connect merchants directly to card networks, reducing transaction friction and transaction costs by 4% to 8%.

  • SoftPOS & Web3 Rails: Handled on SF Express terminal devices (with 7,000+ "哥哥仔" drivers), SoftPOS allows doorstep delivery payment collection. Beatrice also introduced PCG’s regulated stablecoin settlement pilot supported by Cyberport’s Digital Asset Pilot Subsidy Scheme, showing a 22.3% uplift in conversions via instant Apple Pay integration.

3. AEC Group — "One-Stop Solution to Sustainability & Carbon Neutrality"

Presenter: Dennis Wu (Chairman & Executive Director, Allied Sustainability and Environmental Consultants Group Limited — Stock Code: 8320.HK)

Dennis showcased how green technology is essential for enterprises aiming to build a sustainable ecosystem in the Greater Bay Area and globally.

  • Tech-Driven ESG Solutions: AEC introduced high-performance built environment solutions, including Sun-Protection Shading Films and Systems (reflecting up to 90% of solar energy and reducing energy bills by up to 30% in offices across HK and Malaysia).

  • Green Materials & Smart IoT: Dennis discussed blockchain-certified carbon credit management tools, zero-carbon cooling solutions, and ecological coastal adaptations designed to protect natural resources.

4. Hui Doe & Sum Law Firm LLP — "Art Law, Blockchain & The Tokenized Canvas"

Presenter: Julianne Doe (Partner, Hui Doe & Sum Law Firm LLP)

Julianne navigated the complex regulatory waters surrounding intellectual property, data liability, and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization.

  • The Legal Disconnect: Julianne clarified that purchasing an NFT does not automatically transfer the underlying artwork's copyright under Hong Kong's Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528).

  • Storage and Custody Risk: She discussed the legal grey area of "Link Rot" where digital assets point to broken external off-chain links (IPFS or centralized servers) and emphasized the need for codifying digital custody laws.

  • Securities Perimeters: Under the SFO, fractionalizing high-value physical or digital art as financial investments triggers strict SFC licensing requirements (requiring Type 1 and Type 7 licenses).

5. ABCD — "Tax Framework for Art Transactions in Hong Kong"

Presenter: Dr. Amanda Lim (Founder & VP of ABCD, PhD ESGCP; Founder and Director of ACH Worldwide Ltd)

Dr. Lim presented a masterclass on navigating capital gains, trading profits, and next-generation securitization within Hong Kong’s tax jurisdiction.

  • The Triple-Zero Advantage: Hong Kong’s zero VAT/GST, zero Capital Gains Tax, and zero Estate/Inheritance Tax make it the premier global art hub over jurisdictions like London (20% VAT) and New York (up to 40% Estate Tax).

  • The Capital vs. Revenue Dichotomy: Amanda highlighted that the IRD uses the common law "Badges of Trade" to determine standard Profits Tax (8.25% / 16.5%). Traditional artistic copyrights are explicitly excluded from the IP Patent Box (5% concessionary rate), though proprietary creative software engines qualify.

  • Securitization Bypass: Family offices are legally converting active trading profits back into zero-tax exemptions using RWA Securitization (wrapping physical art into Schedule 16C Security Tokens/Tokens under Cap. 571 via Family-Owned Investment Holding Vehicles — FIHV).
